On second thought, I’ve decided not to push the giant flashing red button and instead knit the very first lace pattern. You know, the one you’re supposed to do if you’ve never really knit lace before? Sheesh. This is hard enough. How much you wanna bet it’ll still look wonky after I block it? This evening I actually got out of the apartment, sans children. It was an amazing feeling. The bars did not beckon; my destination was the womb-like interior of Knit… its walls so densely covered in yarn, nary an echo is heard. I went this evening for the weekly Stitch ‘n Bitch. The ladies were cool. I [...] This is what I’ve been spending my spare time doing. That’s one small section of a palm-sized piece of knitting. About halfway through this exercise in futility, I realized I could make more lace and… it could be lacier… if I use slightly larger needles. Because, let’s face it: it’s not lace unless it’s mostly holes. [...] I’ve managed to become so enthralled with knitted lace these past couple days that I started a stitch sampler with size 10 crochet thread and size 2 needles. I’ve probably put five hours into it this weekend. Of course, it’s still tiny. *** Soon I’ll be spinning and dyeing yarn and trying to sell it through the [...] I’ve decided it’s time to move on from straight stockinette stitch into the uncharted territory of lace stitches… so for the first go I chose a relatively easy one called “Old Shale” or “Feather and Fan”.
