Well, some pretty f’d up stuff happened this evening that I don’t want to get into. But on the bright side, I received some raw black wool (Shetland/Suffolk/Romney) from Desired Haven Farm! Just in time for the blog’s birthday. Can’t wait to start including this stuff in the batts I’ll be making with my awesome [...] So nearly immediately after putting this creature up for sale at the shop yesterday, I received a convo (that’s conversation for those of us with the time to speak four syllables) from a nice person, who basically was telling me that she liked the yarn a lot and wanted to know if it was enough [...] Somehow I forgot to mention here that I actually opened up my Etsy shop on December 1! Since then I’ve already had sales from a few different people and a custom order for more. I also recently sold some knitted hats and scarves at Outer Space’s most recent craft sale and picked up *four* custom [...] Tonight at Stitch n’ Bitch I traded in the Pick-up-Stix for a proper set of double pointed needles. Naturally, I became so entranced with my new-found knitting speed that I totally lost my place in the pattern and had to undo two rows of work. Fortunately the hat’s back on track. Tomorrow is the big day! [...] Since my camera is on the fritz, I present for your viewing pleasure some pictures pulled off the internet. Item the first: Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% super kid mohair, 30% silk) in color “Ghost”: Ten minutes ago I finished a hat for the old man that I cast on this very afternoon… and my camera is not letting me take any pictures. It’s pretty neat, the hat. You’ll have to take my word for it. This is the Kitchener stitch that’s been kicking my butt. It’s a method of grafting your knitting together that’s supposed to appear seamless. I got the rhythm down pretty easily from a good tutorial online, but the butt-kicking started when I went to tighten it up… and I guess I tightened up the wrong bits because [...] Because I am determined to not make this a catalogue of yarns that I buy (or, my “stash”, in fiber-addict parlance)… I am not going to share with you what I purchased at Knit tonight… because I was there for Stitch n’ Bitch. Not gonna do it. At least right now, anyway. Instead I’m going to spill the [...] On second thought, I’ve decided not to push the giant flashing red button and instead knit the very first lace pattern. You know, the one you’re supposed to do if you’ve never really knit lace before? Sheesh. This is hard enough. How much you wanna bet it’ll still look wonky after I block it? This evening I actually got out of the apartment, sans children. It was an amazing feeling. The bars did not beckon; my destination was the womb-like interior of Knit… its walls so densely covered in yarn, nary an echo is heard. I went this evening for the weekly Stitch ‘n Bitch.
