For very personal reasons, I don’t have the energy right now to be funny or write a whole lot… but I’ve been pressing the picture button these past couple days, so how’s about you enjoy some photos?

aaaand… snow in Charleston! My apologies to those of you who are snowed to a standstill in other parts of the country. It’s an anomoly here and quite neat.

Happy Birthday, stars like joe!

Well, some pretty f’d up stuff happened this evening that I don’t want to get into. But on the bright side, I received some raw black wool (Shetland/Suffolk/Romney) from Desired Haven Farm! Just in time for the blog’s birthday. Can’t wait to start including this stuff in the batts I’ll be making with my awesome soon-to-be-ordered drum carder.

Here’s a little flashback to my very first post: Wookie Scarf. I had just learned to knit. Hope you enjoy it!

New Year’s list… and a giveaway!

It’s the New Year somewhere, right?

here we go:

  • be patient with my daughters and listen well to them
  • buy local / sustainable / handmade as often as possible
  • go back to college to finish anthropology degree
  • leave the lightest ecological footprint I can in all aspects of my existence
  • begin Pilates classes
  • volunteer in my community

I think that’s a pretty good list to keep around. It’s quality.

***

A few days ago it occurred to me that I was approaching the one-year anniversary for this blog. I’ve been thinking about the circumstances under which it started and all the change that has gone on in that time. It’s been fun and I hope it continues well into the future.

I’m doing a little birthday celebration giveaway for the next week. Anyone who leaves a comment from today through Thursday the 18th will be eligible to win a free *something* in a random drawing on Friday! It can be something you see in my little Etsy shop, a custom carded batt for spinning (I’ll post about it when I receive my drum carder in the next week or two)… or even a 100% castile soap, which I make a large batch of once or twice a year.

Please feel free to pass my little birthday giveaway to anyone you might feel would enjoy some fiber fun or castile soap!

spinnin’ scorpio floozy

Sometimes I’m really smug about the fact that I am a Scorpio. There, I admitted it. I can be selfish. I can be dark. I can be mysterious. I like the things that your quintessential Scorpio is supposed to like. We’re quite a smug little club of dirt dwellers. Even the tattoo artist who inked me said, “yeah, Scorpios are the ones that pretty much always have to get their sign tattooed somewhere”. Didn’t surprise me. Like I said, selfish. And proud. I didn’t get my astrological sign tattooed just because he said that.

Anyway, enough about me.

On to the fiber…

It’s kind of a Scorpio-type batt (hence all the arachnid-talk at the beginning). This exquisite thing came in the mail yesterday from my Phat Fiber group, where it had been donated by Jennifer of Desert Garden. It’s a tribute to Dr. Frank N. Furter of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Black, silvery, sparkly, stuffed with the deepest blood red locks. I don’t know how she got that color, but I must have more. I just… need this color in my life.

ooh, blood!

close-up: *sparkles!*:

I’m such a floozy when it comes to spinning. I can’t wait to finish one yarn so I can start the next one.

just gotta get this guy off first… then it’s on to my latest crush ;)

my first Etsy Treasury

Hey now… how did I forget this? I actually got a Treasury! And no, I didn’t sit around and wait for five straight hours to leap on this.

Treasuries are Etsy’s way of letting people kind of… curate a collection. It’s almost like shopping but not. There are a limited number of slots, they’re constantly expiring and they’re kind of special and fun to make.

Without further ado, here’s the special collection I’ve put together: http://www.etsy.com/treasury_list.php?room_id=111421

I’ll probably try to take a snapshot of that page for later, when the link has gone the way of the dodo.

Over and out.

just the condiments, please

your six year-old makes your almost-four year-old a sandwich.

What’s wrong with that, you say?

Here’s the list of ingredients:

bad investments

Well, the Corn Puppy lost a tooth yesterday, just as I’d predicted the night before. We were too wimpy to pull it out when we should have; it came out with lunch at school.

So we left the Tooth Fairy a nice note explaining the situation and hoped for the best. I guess her best, at 50 cents, was not good enough. The Corn Puppy questioned her accuracy, in quite a gentle voice, this morning – “Doesn’t the Tooth Fairy give a dollar to children?”

Errr… I had to think quickly. “Well, the Tooth Fairy has been hit pretty hard by this recession and the only thing she invests in is teeth and the tooth market is not doing very well right now. AND I bet you when the economy picks up she’ll probably pay you interest on that tooth!”

By the time I’d finished, she was kind of disinterested in the subject. WHEW. Guess I need to set aside a tooth fund so as to avoid these stumbling blocks in the future…

A couple days ago I picked up the girls from the lady who’s been watching them after school. There was this:
